I have a son that is incarcerated and will be getting
out in November of this year. He has chosen to get a fresh start in
another state (Georgia). My concern is that there will be support
systems for him. His problem is cocaine and alcohol.

Comments: We lost my little brother Jeffrey to heroin addiction September of last year and I would like to offer any support I can to addicts that need inspiration and also to families who are experiencing the loss of someone to a drug overdose.
Time does heal all wounds. Jeffrey used the Serenity Prayer as a means of hope and I read it daily as well. |

I have a daughter that has used drugs since she was
16. She is now 28. I have custody of one of her
chilidren. I have learned so much on the rifhts and help
available for grandparents and how to get custody without hiring a
lawyer and I would be willing to share these things.

I have a 20 year old
daughter who is hooked on prescription drugs. We've been
through the same chaos as the other parents that wrote in to this
website. We don't have the answers to this heartbreaking
problem, but it would be nice to have others to talk to who are
going through the same situation.

Comments: My
32 year old son has been addicted to crack for several years. It has
only been the past 2 years when I took him in I realized exactly
what this meant. He has just left a rehab house where he was on work
program and still managed to do drugs. He is now on house arrest. He
always walks away and has never been in jail, even tho he has
committed felonies. As a result, I am trying to get a Nar-Anon group
going in this area, since there has not been one available locally
for some time.

My younger son 25, married, has a daughter 8. Last Friday,
just told me that he is a cocaine addict, and he now is atending a
clinic. I am terrorized, never being in an environment with
drugs. The only thing that I know about drugs is what I've
seen in movies. I do not know what to say, what to do to
help. I want to be 24 hours a day to his side to protect him
but, in my house I am the bread winner, my husband is very sick with
Parkinson and diabetics. I do not know what to do, please help,
help, I adore my son, he is a wonderful human being, I do not
understand how he has gotten into something that he despised so
much. Please, please, I need help, what should I do? what can
I do? Last night I went to his house to talk to his wife, she
was devastated, she then told me the horrible life she is leaving,
and that she does not know what to do, we just embraced and cried
until no more tears came. Please anybody, help us.

My 34 year old daughter is the addict in my life. She
currently is in rehab and has been since January when my suspicions
were confirmed. What a nightmare the past few years have been
. At least now I know I am not the crazy one. We are
here for one another for understanding, support and comfort, I look
forward to meeting you.

I lost my 20 year old daughter to a drug overdose October 13,
2002. I noticed a change in my daughter as soon as she began
middle school. She looked the same but something had changed within
her. Dana began with "roofies", then went on to
ecstasy, to cocaine, then onto heroin. By the age of 16, she
was shooting heroin twice a day. By the age of 18 she went on
methadone and came off of 110 mgs. of methadone when she turned 20.
She had to detox as she was sent to Brevard County Correctional
Center and spent 44 days there for failure to appear in court. When
she was released in Septemner, she smoked some crack for a few days
and was able to get a prescription for xanax, valium and soma- a
deadly combination from a very negligent doctor. Dana died after she
ingested valium, xanax, cocaine, and methadone. She was laying
on a "friends" bed and her breathing became labored.
She was drowning in her own body fluids and the "friend"
waited until she was cold to the touch and had poor color before 911
was called. By then-Dana was gone. I do not know how to advise
those whose kids are using drugs. I do not hear too many
sucess stories. Dana had the counseling, the social workers,
the psychologists/psychiatrists, residential rehab-but that craving
always lured her back into the world of drugs and darkness. She hit
bottom many times-was on life support, in ICU for a week, suffered a
mental breakdown from too many toxins being in her brain, and 6
months before Dana died she slept next to her fiance for 5
hours as he died from an overdose of
methadone. It just seems as though once they use heroin-the chance
of relapse it extremely high. My heart goes out to any and all of
you who are praying for recovery of your loved one. God knows I
prayed for Dana. I think God finally had to remove His hand from her
to put an end to the suffering. Feel free to email me if I can be of
any help. May God send a special angel to watch over all of the
people who are hurting. I know I hurt from the time I wake up to the
time I go to sleep knowing my daughter is gone.

My son is 17 and is addicted to crack-cocaine. He has had
problems for the past 4-5 years (started with pot and alcohol) but
now it has gotten so much worse. He has been stealing cash,
checks, etc from his Dad, me, his step-bother and wife, and I'm not
sure who else. I do know that our neighbors cars have been
broken into several times. I had him arrested for the thefts
and fogeries but juvenile would not keep him, even though he had
aquired 10 folonies and 7 misdemeanors. He does have prior
records and has been in 2 rehabs only to go right back to the drugs.
He told me that he has a 100.00 day habit. My step-son told me
that many people are after him because he owes so much money to
them. He said that just the other night, he was spotted
running down the road all wigged out with only a pair of shorts on
and all dirty with someone chasing him. Please help me, I am
close to a nervous breakdown again. I don't want to lose my
son. I live in Brevard County, FL in
case anyone knows of something local that I can try. Please
help! I am desperate!
